The Southern Cross Preparatory School hosted a friendly sports day on Saturday 9 May. Netball and soccer teams from Educare Primary, The King’s Court Christian School and Laerskool Mariepskop participated in the competition.
The netball competition was played on the school’s courts and took the form of a round robin competition with all teams playing each other to earn points to determine the overall winner. The competition included U11 and open girls.
In the U11 competition the overall winner was the team from The King’s Court and in the open section the winning team was from Laerskool Mariepskop.
The 6-a-side soccer competition was played on the schools new sports fields and also took the form of a round robin tournament. The only difference from the netball was that the top two teams in the round robin played a final. In the U11 section The King’s Court and Educare Primary made it into the final with The King’s Court running out winners after a closely contested final.
In the open boys section, the teams of Educare Primary and Southern Cross
Schools (SCS) contested the final. By the end of the first half Educare had shocked with two quick goals and led 2-0. The second half saw a great fight back from SCS as they scored twice to level the scores. The matched remained locked at two all by full time and extra time was needed to decide the winner. In the “golden goal” extra time, Educare scored to clinch the match and title of overall winner.
Thank you to all the participating teams for an enjoyable morning of healthy, competitive sport in an absolutely wonderful setting.
