The drummers from Southern Cross Schools in Hoedspruit will be performing at The Outpost Tourist Centre on Friday 1 February between 7pm and 8pm. This Centre is situated along the R40 between Mica and Hoedspruit.
“This will be our first public performance of the year and we are really looking forward to playing at the opening of an exhibition that celebrates the history of our area. We enjoy getting to see new locations and always have a pile of fun,” says Shaun-Michael Preston, the head drummer.
“We are exceptionally proud of our drummers, a motivated and highly talented group of youngsters that are certainly worth listening to,” says Sandy Schulze, team manager. “They have excelled beyond our wildest dreams and have walked away with the Joubert & May Instrumental Trophy, presented at the annual Eistedfod in Tzaneen, 4 years running.”
Last year the team ended off with a small core group of only 11 drummers in the squad, however, their numbers have now swelled to over 30.
“We are terribly excited about the clubs expansion, although we now desperately need more drums,” says Schulze.
The squad plays a range of compositions which are all composed by the drummers themselves and then given titles depending on the stories and circumstances surrounding the origins of the tune.
Friday night’s performance is just the first of many planned for the year and all are welcome to go along and enjoy this performance under the stars. You can also follow the school’s facebook page for regular updates.
