The first soccer team of Southern Cross Schools played a match against the first team of Kingfisher Private School from Phalaborwa. The match was played on the new sports field of Southern Cross Schools (SCS) on Saturday 11 May.
The SCS boys dominated possession throughout the match and it wasn’t long before they were 2-0 ahead. By half-time the score was still 2-0 after numerous unsuccessful attempts on goal by the SCS team. In the second half SCS once again dominated possession but conceded a goal through poor defending. SCS quickly came back to score again taking the score line to 3-1. With the two goal cushion the SCS boys once again took their foot off the gas and conceded another goal through sloppy defending.
The well contested match finished 3-2 to Southern Cross who ultimately deserved to win. They did, however, learn a few lessons about not letting the opposition come back when clearly having the advantage.
